About Us

Welcome to Goldthorpe Primary School!

Goldthorpe is a village within the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire, England. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, in ancient times it was a small medieval farming village and is even recorded in the Domesday Book. In later times, Goldthorpe flourished as a coal mining community. Following the closure of the pits and the inevitable increase in levels of socio-economic deprivation that followed, Goldthorpe is now beginning to benefit from regeneration programmes and investment.

Goldthorpe Primary School lies at the heart of the local community.  It was located on the previous site since 1903 which means we were there for 113 years!  In the summer of 2016 we relocated to our new site and opened our doors in September 2016.

Our vision is to develop the holistic potential of all our pupils so they become successful, responsible, active members of society.

Goldthorpe Primary School is a highly ambitious and aspirational learning environment where we strive at all times to find even more ways of enhancing our work to provide every child with an outstanding start to their school life.

As an exciting centre of learning, Goldthorpe Primary School is characterised by high standards in oracy, literacy and numeracy, a rich, broad and balanced curriculum and a happy, safe and supportive environment. Our school has a strong commitment to meeting the needs of children and their families and promotes strong relationships with the community.

Our teachers, support staff and volunteers share the passion to inspire and motivate children to achieve their full potential. We are, quite simply, very proud of Goldthorpe and the community it serves.
