How does the school teach?
Goldthorpe Primary School’s aim is to enable all our children to reach their full potential across the whole curriculum by providing a rich, broad and relevant curriculum that embraces a range of teaching styles and experiences and is based upon creative and first hand experiences.
When children join Goldthorpe Primary School in our Foundation Stage Unit they follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which covers seven main areas of learning (below) and provides a foundation for all other learning.
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Communication and language
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
As children move to KS1 and until they leave us in Year 6, they follow the National Curriculum. Further information about the curriculum can be found on the DfE website and under ‘Curriculum Documents’ on our website.
We run a Connected Curriculum approach and the Key Subjects covered are:
|English||Art and Design||Personal, Health, Social & Citizenship Education (PHSCE)|
|Science||Geography||Religious Education (RE)|
|Computing||Design Technology (DT)||Phonics|
|Physical Education (PE)||Sex Education|
We also teach Mandarin as our Modern Foreign Language. This starts in the Foundation Stage and continues through to Year 6 and we employ a specialist Mandarin Teacher to deliver this.
